Big Mother: FLOTUS Tells Doctors to Write Prescriptions for Your Fat Kids
from "The Blaze"
The link to a video above, if you haven't seen it, is of the wonderful First Lady. She said, flat out, it will be/is required by all private health insurance programs to measure body mass index (BMI) as part of regular checkups. She then says that they are working on getting doctors and pediatricians to write prescriptions for obesity.
First of all, I assume this is aimed at everyone not just children. HOWEVER, the thought that she's even considering aiming this at children is an all out horrible idea. THEN, to say that you want doctors and pediatricians to write prescriptions for obesity in children is even more of a stupid idea. We don't need to start kids off on some idea that they are over weight and the only way to be in the "normal" catagory, according to BMI charting, is to go to your doctor and get a prescription for a dietary supplement. Children in their teens are already facing peer pressure from what they see on TV, in movies, magazines and music videos. So let's start even earlier and teach them that mom and dad and the doctor along with a whole host of other people that self image, body image and weight are the only thing people notice. Yeah, that makes sense.
WHO, in their right mind, would think this is a good idea? BMI isn't even a healthy way to chart what is "normal" for size. Let's do an example on myself. I'm 5'10" and weigh 170lbs. Now according to the BMI calculator that I found online here, "normal" is anywhere from 18.5 to 24.9. So based on my height and weight I got 18.7. Now remember that "normal" is 18.5. So in order to get to that I'd have to weigh 127lbs. 127lbs on a 5'10" frame. I've weighed 150lbs before and let me tell you that it isn't remotely a good weight for me to be at. My ribs were visible along with my hips, clavicles and spine. And that was just 20lbs less than what I am now. I don't want to imagine what I'd look like 23lbs lower than 150lbs. BUT that's in the "normal" range and 170lbs is almost out of the "normal" range where I feel I look perfectly fine. I'm not sickly looking nor am I obese. Now my wife who is 5'5" (I think) to get the minimum of "normal' would have to be 111lbs. But if she crosses 150lbs she's overweight. She's only 5inches shorter than me and her minimum would be 16lbs less than my minimum. Again, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT TO TEACH OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN THAT THIS TYPE OF CHARTING IS OKAY?! I'm NOT sorry, but there IS something called being underweight. And being underweight is not healthy either. In fact being underweight doesn't even look healthy.
This is a perverse idea to crack down on child obesity and even adult obesity. The idea that now when you go to get a little checkup and the doctor for you or your child you are going to be charted and told that you or your child could be overweight even though you look a healthy weight, which I consider myself to be a healthy weight even an additional 10lbs I'd consider to be fine. The idea that someone would consider telling people that they are overweight or their children based on a BMI calculation is sick. But what makes it even worse is the idea to prescribe pills to lower weight rather than to give a healthy alternative like exercise and eating more healthy foods.
Final thoughts: In a stupid attempt to combat child obesity and obesity in adults, the First Lady has outright endorsed a stupid ideology in order to get to a "healthy weight." One would think that the way she intends to combat obesity would be in a healthy manner. Instead, she is endorsing an "easy button" way. Basically saying that obesity in anyone needs to stop no matter the cost and no matter the health consequences of said prescribed pills. The mental harm and the physical harm of something like this needs to be considered OVER ANYTHING ELSE. This is a stupid idea, just like the idea for schools to track BMI and give a "report card" on it.

SEIU doesn't understand taxes or the cost of services.
‘Give Up the Bucks:’ Illinois Pigs at the Trough Demanding More Slop, With the Help of Astroturf SEIU
What do these SEIU people not understand about taxing businesses? Any and all businesses work in the same manner. If the government says to the local plumber or electrician in your town, "We're going to raise your taxes 2%. And we are taxing all businesses making more than $250k a year a simple 2%." Will that business owner just say "ok."? NO! That 2% is payment on their property taxes or the "new guy's" raise for the year or benefits he gives to his/her employees or paying a bill. It's not just laying around in the owner's bank account, and even if it was, IT'S HIS/HER MONEY. They earned that money by fixing something or being an expert in that field and providing a service to it's customers.
Let's face it, right here and right now, that business owners don't like watching their money being taken right out of their pocket. And probably don't like to raise rates on their customers either. But facts are facts. If it means be late on a bill, or lose the "new guy" because they aren't getting a raise this year, I think they will raise their rates. An across the board rate hike. They aren't just going to raise the rates on their customers who make more that $250k a year. The rate goes up on the guy that only makes $50k a year and is trying to support a family on top of everything else he's paying for.
What does that translate into? The tax that was enforced by the government on the business that is making over $250k a year just got LEGALLY passed onto EVERYONE ELSE! Does the government still get it's money? Yes. Is the business paying for it? Yes. But are we compensating the loss the business is taking? YES. So when you know you can't really afford to call a plumber or electrician what do you do? My first thought is to try it myself after I look into the problem. I do that to avoid paying out ear for a service I can't afford, unless I have to. And we should all know that if rates go up, then the less likely we are to pay for the related service. That's practically human nature. "My money is MY money."
What does this solve? We raise taxes on the "businesses that can "afford it"." They raise rates on us. We opt out of paying for their services unless absolutely necessary. What happens to all the "services" the SEIU is talking about. They will get their funding but only for a short time and then they'll want to raise taxes on the businesses or "rich" again. It's a never ending cycle. And a costly one. Because if you keep raising the taxes on the rich and/or businesses you will start to see the number of rich and businesses go down because lack of business.
Raising taxes IS NOT the answer. If you spend your paychecks on stupid stuff or stupid objects that "make your life easier" you will soon run out of money. You can't just go to your boss and ask for a raise to compensate for the lack of money to pay for your spending habits. You also can't just raise your budget to suit your needs. THAT'S WHAT A BUDGET KEEPS YOU FROM DOING. A budget is to keep you within your means. In order to have money to pay for the things you NEED, not WANT, you must control your spending habits. Cut what you can live without in order to live.
What's the "answer"? Unfortunately it's not popular because we as a nation what our proverbial cake and eat it too. We are ok with tax hikes, but only on the rich that can "afford" it. We want to control spending, but we don't want to do without all government funded "services". I have been in a situation where I have spent too much, or thought I could pay a couple bills off and forgot about that other bill or other things I needed to pay for. It's tough to tighten the belt, and especially tough when we've grown use to spending freely. I say the government who's been spending us into oblivion should start making cuts to EVERYTHING we can live without. Start with the small stuff and continue to make cuts. War spending, foreign aid and foreign "aid", all the way down to cutting social security and the people that run it, the department of education and the people that run it. Impose a flat tax on all products of 11%. Impose an 11% flat tax on each income bracket. A new thing we should start looking into is cutting wages of our elected officials, cut the government credit cards they have, cut the tax loopholes for writing off campaign expenses. Cut businesses out of being able to donate to candidates. You want to run for office, run on your own dime and on the dimes of the PEOPLE who CHOOSE to support you, not businesses. We also need a president that is willing to veto any and all bills that have earmarks in them or wasteful spending. Another aspect while small, is to institute term limits on all government officials. No more than 8 years. This keeps out the corruption, the political "elites", the special favors especially combined with no business contrabutions to campaigns.
Exchange the current joke of a tax policy that changes EVERY YEAR with a tax code that is simplistic. You make $50k a year, pay 11% of that for taxes. If 11% isn't needed lower it to suit the needs. Cut any and all government spending that isn't needed or hasn't produced any change in numbers for the betterment of the country and the people. If student test scores aren't rising, why are we continuing to spend money on it. Parents can provide for their children to get an education. (speaking as a parent myself) If someone is on unemployment more than they work at a job, they get cut off. That will force them to maintain a job and provide for themselves rather than taxpayers providing for them. No government health care and or insurance. *Save for military veterans* They get it because they fight for us. Pull our military out of countries that we are occupying. This isn't just Iraq and Afghanistan. ALL countries we just sit there in. Get out of the U.N. and any form of European form of government/military and start worrying about our best interests at home. Support those in the S.S. mess and make it an option to set up your own Social Security Accounts that will be funded by your paycheck. Get the idea.
It's time the people and the government start saying "It's up to you to support yourself." If you make the people support themselves, they have no way to mooch off the government. Mooching off the government is a huge part of wasteful spending.
That is the answer. And the government needs to step up the plate, and tell it like it is. We're going broke, and this is what we need to do to fix it.

Welcome to The Libertarian TImes!
Welcome to The Libertarian Times, brought to you by me, The Libertarian. I'm making this blog in an attempt to educate those that wish to know what once made this country great. To remind the rest of us what once made this country great. Never before in the history of this country have we needed to be more informed. I hope to bring that information to those that want it in hopes that you will re-educate those around you, or send them this way. I welcome any and all viewpoints but bashing will not be tolerated.
Like my description says, I will try to use this blog as a means to speaking truth and common sense as my hammer. Anything that doesn't stand after will be rejected. Ideas, beliefs, morals, values from either side of the spectrum will be taken on.
History will be laid out so the truth can be heard. There are people with an agenda in this world that want to try to rewrite history. They know the one way to do that is to start with our children and erase bits and pieces that they don't like. The time for that to stop is here. You cannot erase history. As George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." We can no longer afford to stand idle and watch our government continue to take away our children's future.
"If you believe that this country is great but is heading in the wrong direction, then STAND UP! Come on, follow me."
