Big Mother: FLOTUS Tells Doctors to Write Prescriptions for Your Fat Kids

Big Mother: FLOTUS Tells Doctors to Write Prescriptions for Your Fat Kids
from "The Blaze"
The link to a video above, if you haven't seen it, is of the wonderful First Lady. She said, flat out, it will be/is required by all private health insurance programs to measure body mass index (BMI) as part of regular checkups. She then says that they are working on getting doctors and pediatricians to write prescriptions for obesity.

First of all, I assume this is aimed at everyone not just children. HOWEVER, the thought that she's even considering aiming this at children is an all out horrible idea. THEN, to say that you want doctors and pediatricians to write prescriptions for obesity in children is even more of a stupid idea. We don't need to start kids off on some idea that they are over weight and the only way to be in the "normal" catagory, according to BMI charting, is to go to your doctor and get a prescription for a dietary supplement. Children in their teens are already facing peer pressure from what they see on TV, in movies, magazines and music videos. So let's start even earlier and teach them that mom and dad and the doctor along with a whole host of other people that self image, body image and weight are the only thing people notice. Yeah, that makes sense.

WHO, in their right mind, would think this is a good idea? BMI isn't even a healthy way to chart what is "normal" for size. Let's do an example on myself. I'm 5'10" and weigh 170lbs. Now according to the BMI calculator that I found online here, "normal" is anywhere from 18.5 to 24.9. So based on my height and weight I got 18.7. Now remember that "normal" is 18.5. So in order to get to that I'd have to weigh 127lbs. 127lbs on a 5'10" frame. I've weighed 150lbs before and let me tell you that it isn't remotely a good weight for me to be at. My ribs were visible along with my hips, clavicles and spine. And that was just 20lbs less than what I am now. I don't want to imagine what I'd look like 23lbs lower than 150lbs. BUT that's in the "normal" range and 170lbs is almost out of the "normal" range where I feel I look perfectly fine. I'm not sickly looking nor am I obese. Now my wife who is 5'5" (I think) to get the minimum of "normal' would have to be 111lbs. But if she crosses 150lbs she's overweight. She's only 5inches shorter than me and her minimum would be 16lbs less than my minimum. Again, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT TO TEACH OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN THAT THIS TYPE OF CHARTING IS OKAY?! I'm NOT sorry, but there IS something called being underweight. And being underweight is not healthy either. In fact being underweight doesn't even look healthy.

This is a perverse idea to crack down on child obesity and even adult obesity. The idea that now when you go to get a little checkup and the doctor for you or your child you are going to be charted and told that you or your child could be overweight even though you look a healthy weight, which I consider myself to be a healthy weight even an additional 10lbs I'd consider to be fine. The idea that someone would consider telling people that they are overweight or their children based on a BMI calculation is sick. But what makes it even worse is the idea to prescribe pills to lower weight rather than to give a healthy alternative like exercise and eating more healthy foods.

Final thoughts: In a stupid attempt to combat child obesity and obesity in adults, the First Lady has outright endorsed a stupid ideology in order to get to a "healthy weight." One would think that the way she intends to combat obesity would be in a healthy manner. Instead, she is endorsing an "easy button" way. Basically saying that obesity in anyone needs to stop no matter the cost and no matter the health consequences of said prescribed pills. The mental harm and the physical harm of something like this needs to be considered OVER ANYTHING ELSE. This is a stupid idea, just like the idea for schools to track BMI and give a "report card" on it.
